Why is Everyone Moving to Denver?
You’ve surely heard someone you know say, “You know, I’d really like to move to Denver.” It’s safe to make that statement because a lot of people are saying it. In fact, more than 100,000 thousand people made the move to Colorado last year, and that number even exceed the expectations of the state.
But why is everyone moving to Denver? The Mile-High City has more things going on than can be covered in on article, but let’s scratch the surface a little bit.
Wonderful Weather
Denver has amazing weather, and this comes as a surprise to many people. It’s not constantly full of snow, and the humidity is really low, even in the summer. This makes even the higher or lower temperatures feel much milder.
Also, it has more than 300 days of sunshine every year. The average temperature in winter is 45 degrees Fahrenheit, and it fairly often has sunny days which bring it significantly higher. July is the hottest month of the year, and the average temperature is only 88 degrees Fahrenheit.
To top it off, there’s only 8 to 15 inches of annual precipitation.
Mega Mountains
The city isn’t in the mountains itself, but it is close enough to make a quick hop for some outdoor activities. The mountains cause the state to consistently rank on lists of the most active residents.
Winter Sports
Skiing and snowboarding are a popular way for Coloradans to spend snowy days in the winter. Aspen, Vail, and Breckenridge may be famous around the world, but there are many others. However, it’s not an accident that the Winter X-Games are held in Aspen, and will be until at least 2019.
Ski resorts are so close to Denver that it’s possible to work part of the day and hit the slopes on the other half. The closest is Echo Mountain Resort which is only 35 miles away, and the nearest major resort is Winter Park which is about 67 miles away. Colorado currently has over 20 different ski areas of various sizes. Some are massive places with runs for all skill levels, and others are very small and specialized.
Summer Outdoor Activities
On the other hand, the mountains aren’t just popular when they’re covered in snow. There are tons of parks and wilderness areas all over the state, but one of the best is Rocky Mountain National Park. This gem is 416 square miles of beautiful scenery, and it’s only about 70 miles from Denver. It has around 150 lakes, over 350 miles of hiking trails, and 60 peaks that break the 12,000-foot barrier.
City Parks
Denverites don’t have to make a big trek if they want a nature feeling because the city is littered with parks. There are nearly 20,000 acres in the Denver Parks and Recreation system, and they’re spread around so that there’s always something nearby. If you want to do some walking, the city has over 80 miles of trails that aren’t away from the streets. Also, there are 9 dog parks for your four-legged friends to let out their energy. In addition to the plethora of dog parks, there are a large number of pet-friendly establishments in the Denver area! (Additionally all of our housing options are pet friendly apartments if you are looking for a place in Denver for you and your furry one!)
Lots of Jobs
In case you want to pay your bills while enjoying this beauty, Denver can help you take care of that as well. Unemployment is around 3.8%, and job growth has been steadily increasing. Denver even landed the top spot on Forbes Magazine’s Best Places for Business and Careers list. There are many fast, growing companies that have decided to call Denver their home which has led to a multitude of new jobs. The tech industry is one that seems to be growing very quickly with many businesses such as digital market agencies, sprouting up in and around the downtown area.
Beer, Beer, and Beer
Colorado used to be known for Coors, but now it’s much more than that. The state has over 280 microbreweries, and a significant number of these are in Denver. There is sure to be beer for every person in every situation!

Professional Sports Teams
If you’re into sports, there’s a whole selection of teams to cheer for. The Denver Broncos play at Sports Authority Field, and you may have heard that they just won the Super Bowl. The Colorado Avalanche and the Denver Nuggets share the Pepsi Center and both have loyal followings and fun games. The Colorado Rockies play at one of the most beautiful baseball stadiums in the country, and it’s a great place to sit back and enjoy the American pastime. There is also a professional soccer team, the Colorado Rapids, which competes in the MLS. They’ve been around since the creation of the league. There are even two professional lacrosse teams, the Denver Outlaws and Colorado Mammoth, who play the outdoor and indoor versions of the sport.
Airport and Geographic Location
Denver International Airport is one of the largest in the nation, and it has non-stop flights to over 150 destinations. It really helps that the location is almost in the center of the country, so the flight times to nearly anywhere are pretty reasonable.
